Rev. Gracher L. Selby, 75, of Allentown transitioned from Labor to Reward on February 6, 2025. Born in Swan Quarter, North Carolina on October 4, 1949 she was the daughter of the Late William and Reva Shelton.
After graduating from Virginia State University with a degree in Mathametics she moved to Allentown, PA in 1973, accepting a position as a analyst with PPL Co where she remained until her early retirement in 2002. Desiring to work in Healthcare she became a CNA in 2004 which she did for about 15 years.
Reverend Selby has been involved in church work since the age of 12. She loved the Lord and loved to teach others to love the Lord. She was ordained Elder in the AME ZION Church in Philadelphia in 1995. Rev. Selby continued serving as district director of children for 13 years and youth pastor/associate pastor at St. James AME Zion church for 11 years. In 2007 she was given the charge to be pastor of Genesis AME Zion Church and in 2008 the charge to be pastor of St. John AME Zion Church until 2022.
Reverend Selby has been recognized throughout the Lehigh Valley and the AME Zion connection for her work with the youth. She is a life member of the NAACP and the ACT-SO chairperson for the Allentown branch. She received the woman of the year award from the Allentown NAACP in 2000 and the Allentown human relations award in 2002 for her work with the youth in the community.
She is survived by her son Reggie Selby, his wife Brandi and stepdaughter Taja and great grandson Al. Brothers: Raul Shelton and Dail Shelton, her beloved St. John AME Zion family, extended family and a community of friends.
Funeral Services will take place on Friday February 14, 2025 at 12PM in St. JAMES AME Zion church 410 Union St. Allentown, PA. Viewing begins at 10AM in the church. Interment will follow services in Cedar Hill Memorial Park
