He is also survived by his loving partner, Sue Evers, of Allentown, Pennsylvania. He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mildred (Schware).
Dan was born June 4, 1932 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Central Catholic High School. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1951, was discharged as a Sergeant in 1954, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal. After his military service, he graduated with a B.S. in Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. Dan worked as a mechanical engineer throughout his career, primarily with Harry H. Reich Company and Vulcan Engineering, until his retirement in May 2001 from Laempe-Reich. Dan loved his work and was an excellent engineer, well respected in his field, referred to frequently as, “the best engineer I’ve ever worked with” by those fortunate enough to share a project with him.
In his youth, Dan was an avid marathon runner, running his first Boston Marathon at age 40. He loved driving a convertible, including his 1960’s Corvette, until his first child was old enough to pull it out of gear as a toddler. Dan was a voracious reader who could be found reading novels daily and enjoyed making Philly cheesesteak sandwiches for his kids. He was a quiet man who loved his family fiercely; his children rested in the security of knowing that he was there for them, no matter the day or the struggle. His wisdom and dry humor were shared with few, but those who knew him were the grateful recipients of these gifts. He enjoyed a cold Budweiser, a good bucket hat, and his friends at the Citronia Fire House in Allentown and Shenanigans in Birmingham.
Per Dan’s request, there will be no service, but his children ask that you raise a cold Budweiser in toast with those you love.
