Frances Betty Montana

Frances Betty Theresa Montana of Allentown, PA, born on March 3, 1952 in Waterbury, Connecticut,  went home to be with her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on May 31, 2024. She was the beloved first daughter of Armand and Betty (Johns) Montana.

Frannie was a talented pianist and singer and active in William Allen High School's musical program. As a teen, she also enjoyed volunteering at the Lehigh County Chapter of the Association for Retarded Children's (LARC) day camp. She went on to attend Mansfield University where she majored in Music and Special Education.  She served as co-editor of the college newspaper and interviewed Gene Roddenberry when he came to speak at Manfield.

Frannie worked at Mary Ann's Donuts, Hess's Department Stores' Corporate Offices, Merchants Bank, in Allentown, PA, and Gottschalk Department Stores' Customer Service in Fresno, CA.  Her favorite job was working as a Physical Therapy aide at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital in Allentown, PA, where she also volunteered as a stroke visitor.  In addition, she served as her youngest sister, Melanie Lynne Montana' s, compassionate caretaker during a two-year fight with cancer. Melanie predeceased her, as did her brother Salvatore Montana.

She was active in her Catholic parishes in caring ministries and teaching catechism, and was passionate about theology, prayer  and Bible studies.   A life-long learner, Frani loved reading, the Beatles, cooking and eating good food, and conversing and laughing with friends and family.  

Frances is survived by her stepmother Joanne Bernecker Montana;  her sister and brother-in-law, Theresa Montana and Larry Sabo; her nieces, Leah Betty and Hannah Christine Sabo, and her nephew Nicholas Armand Sabo.  

A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday June 5, 2024 at 12PM in St. Francis of Assisi 1046 W. Cedar Street, Allentown.  Calling period begins at 11:30AM in the church.  Interment will follow Mass at Highland Memorial Park-Allentown.
