Cheryl Lynette Flynn-Brantley, 74, transitioned to glory and joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Lehigh Valley Health Network-Muhlenberg Campus. She was the wife of Matthew Brantley, Sr. of Allentown, PA. Cheryl was born on June 25, 1949 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to her late parents Charles Edward Flynn and Lucy Sarah Flynn Bibby. She was the youngest of four sisters which include Clara Flynn Tolbert, the late Carol Flynn Malloy, and Cynthia Flynn Capers.
Cheryl was a beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She leaves to celebrate her life three children—Diane Renee Wellington of Harrisburg, PA, Deirdre Lynn Hollman of New York, NY, and Stephen Robert Hollman, of Harrisburg, PA; her six grand-children—Cyle Wellington, Ryan Wellington, Allycia Hollman, LaFreesia Snook, Sydnee Hollman, and Myles Dawson; her 12 great-grandchildren—Camden, Ava, Nora, Raniyah, Rylan, Destiny, Ryan Jr., Samaya, Kai, Demarquess, Amiyah, and Sienna; her five step-children Matthew Brantley Jr., Marissa Brantley Umaru, Kira Brantley, Rene Arrington, and Angela Arrington Artis; her three step-grandchildren—Joshua, Xavier, and Autumn; and her nieces and nephews—Michael, Christopher, Kevin (deceased), Leslie, and Tracy.
Cheryl was an Electricity Utilities Customer Service Representative for the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company (PP&L) for over 40 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served as a member of the Missionary Society, a teacher in the Christian Education Department, and as a coordinator of the Class Leaders. Cheryl was also a member of the Allentown Branch of the N.A.A.C.P. where she was recognized as the 2004 “Woman of the Year” for her dedicated service organizing the education and mentoring programs for youth.
Her service to youth extended further into the Lehigh Valley community through her membership in the non-profit organization Women’s Unlimited, Inc. where she served as President and Vice-President for over a decade. She also tutored at the Lincoln Early Childhood Center in Allentown through her membership in PP&L’s African-American Business Resource Group where she was chair of the Membership and Scholarship Committee. She described her commitment to youth and community as doing “God’s work” and “investing in the future”.
They say, “A life that touches others goes on forever”. Cheryl leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and laughter. Her family, friends, and community will miss her bright smile and generous heart.
Funeral Services wll take place on Tuesday at 11AM in St. James AME Zion Church 410 Union St. Allentown. Viewing beings at 10AM. Interment will follow services in Highland Memorial Park.
