Blanche Winston In Our Care

Mrs. Blanche Emmeline (Jenkins) (Giles) Winston, age 95, of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 12:17 p.m. Born in New Haven,
Connecticut, she was the cherished daughter of the late Mae Eleanor Jenkins and Carl Jessie Jenkins. Blanche was preceded in death by her beloved husband, McKinley Winston, Sr., and her
siblings: Carl Jenkins, Ralph Jenkins, Bobby Jenkins, Leroy Jenkins, Doris Jenkins, and Pauline Jenkins. Raised in New Haven, Connecticut, Blanche attended Winchester School, Bassett JHS, and St. Mary’s School. She briefly pursued a career as a singer performing in New Haven and New York City before committing to her career in healthcare which spanned 42 years. She
received her LPN license in 1957 from the State of Connecticut. She worked as an LPN in the operating room, specializing in cardiac and urology nursing, and later as an administrative
office manager at Yale New Haven Hospital and various other private medical practices. She pursued further education at East Stroudsburg University’s continuing education program,
taking computer, American Sign Language and music courses.
A devoted woman of faith, at the Shiloh Baptist Church in New London, Connecticut, Blanche served as a Deaconess and Missionary, visiting the sick and shut in. Blanche was an
organist and singer, and Director of the Chancellor Choir. She participated in Christian Education classes and taught Sunday School. Blanche attended Bethel AME Church in the New Haven area prior to residing in New London and Old Saybrook. She deeply loved God, her family, and friends.
After relocating to Pennsylvania in 2007, she joined the Christian Missionary Church and later became a member of the Greater Shiloh Stroudsburg Campus Church, where she
remained an active member and church Mother until her final days. Blanche supported the National Council for Negro Women and the Monroe County NAACP.
She was passionate about cooking and her favorite dessert was butter pecan ice cream. 

She lovingly served as a second mother to her nephew, Cilvin Steward . Her surviving children are George Giles Jr., Vernice Duke, McKinley Winston, Jr., Gregory Winston and
Maurier Winston. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who will miss her dearly. 
The family would like to formally acknowledge and extend heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Joyce Green, Debra Proffit, and their families, with whom Blanche formed a
special bond. 

Funeral Services will take place on Thursday at 11AM in Greater Shiloh-North Campus.  Viewing begins at 10AM.  Interment will follow services in Greenwood Cemetery-Allentown.
