William T. Shelton, 98, of Breinigsville, PA transitioned from Earth to Eternity on Saturday June 16, 2018 at Lehigh Center.
PFC Shelton registered with the local draft board in Swan Quarter, North Carolina during March of 1942, he was found to be fit and was classified 1-A, meaning he was immediately available for Military Service.
Early April 1942, William Received his formal draft notice, "Greetings, from the President of the United States", report to Fort Bragg, NC for physical and induction in the US Army.
Shelton was in Company G37 1st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion 92nd Infantry- "Buffalo Soldier Division", Light Machine Gunner-Anti-Tank gun crewman-Rifleman.
He served in Italy 1944-45 Rome, Arno, North Apennines Mountain Range, Po Valley. He earned six awards. He was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and loving father. He married Reva Saddler in Swan Quarter, NC on November 30, 1942.
He is survived by his daughter Rev. Gracher Selby, Sons, Fred (Gracelene), Dail (Sandra), Eddie, Raul (Claudette), 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in Death by sons George and Darrall.
Viewing and Services will take place from 7-9PM in Judd-Beville Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday June 21, 2018.
Additional viewing and services will take place on Saturday at 1PM in St. Lydia Baptist Church Swan Quarter, North Carolina. Viewing will begin at 12PM in the church. Interment will follow services in Brown Cemetery Engelhard, NC.
