On Sunday, January 5th, 2020 Maurice Witherspoon passed away at the age of 57.

Maurice was born on November 7, 1962 to the late Willie Harvey Witherspoon and the late Doretha Ann Witherspoon. Maurice attended elementary and middle school and later graduated from Sterling High School in Brooklyn, New York. After high school, Maurice went to work alongside his father for Lafayette Display. He also worked for Carpet Tech in Brooklyn. Maurice then moved to Virginia to work at KC Fine Furniture and Carpet. He later relocated to Pennsylvania in 2006 where he started to work as a security guard. Maurice had such a good spirit and was always kind. He could engage in conversation with anyone and brighten their day. He was always the life of the party and he truly enjoyed life itself. He loved listening to music, especially ‘his oldies’, as he would call it. Unlike his brothers, Maurice was not into basketball, he loved shooting dice, fixing bikes and collecting antique cars. Although he wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, Maurice was the most well-kept and the sharpest guy we all knew. He always dressed to impress no matter the occasion.

Maurice was preceded in death by his father Willie Harvey Witherspoon, mother Doretha Ann Witherspoon, his older brother Edwin Harvey Witherspoon, grandparents Lillie B. Smith, Bonnie Hairston and Mildred Wright. May they all rest in peace.

Maurice leaves to cherish his loving memories, his special friend Tawanda Simmons or as he would call her his “boo boo”; his three sons Maurice, Jr. Broadus, Floyd Desmond Broadus and Steven Miles; his two daughters Kenyetta Broadus and Candace Lawerence; his daughters-in-law Anisha Broadus and Bella Broadus; his grandchildren Keymoni, Samone, Lilliebell, Kiarrah, Maurice, Edwin, Abi, Ray Ray, Ry-Azia, Floyd, Jr. and Deja; his eight sisters Andrea Johnson, Susan E. Witherspoon, Wendy Reddick, Lillie B. Brereton, Laneen Richard, Tawander Candelario, Tavier Thomas and Tyiesha Baker; his six brothers Tyrone Witherspoon, Leon Witherspoon, Micheal Witherspoon, Sharron Witherspoon, Willie Harvey Witherspoon and Warren Thomas; his brothers-in-law Ricardo Brereton, Russell Reddick and Wayne Wyatt; his sisters-in-law Sonia Witherspoon, Tammi Witherspoon, Angela Witherspoon and Charmaine Witherspoon; his aunts Frances Meadow, Dr. Martha Meadow, Dr. Karen Price, Sandra Davis, Denise Wright, Gloria Wright and Uncle Darryl Wright along with his nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family and friends.

Maurice will forever be in our lives and he will be deeply missed for his morning texts to his family and friends: “Good morning, have a blessed day, Love Monk”.

Interment will take place on Tuesday January 14th in Rosehill Cemetery Linden, New Jersey

Lovingly submitted by the family.
